Samiksha Gupta
I am a contemporary oil painter inspired by nature. My work captures fleeting instances of simplicity, and the quiet theatre of everyday life, moments that unfold gently in nature, people, places and objects around us. I do this by blending direct, Alla prima brushwork with sculpted, layered techniques from the traditional indirect approach. More recently, I find myself drawn to a flatter technique and modern aesthetic.
Organic forms, fruit, flowers, plants appear naturally and frequently in my work, often inspired by the luminous textures of fresco painting. While my paintings are rooted in the figurative tradition and touch on realism, there is an abstraction to what I'm interested in. What truly fascinates me are shapes, colors, textures, and the patterns created by nature.
I studied Realism under masters of Western Classical art in Florence, Italy, and later pursued one-on-one mentorship with a senior artist trained at Studio Escalier in France. Over time, I have moved away from the earthy, restrained palettes traditionally taught in ateliers, embracing vibrant colors instead. Now, I find myself shifting toward a more balanced palette, developing a better understanding of color relationships while still staying true to my instincts.

Picking Lemons, 2025
Since beginning my artistic journey in 2018, my training in world-renowned studios has shaped a practice that merges historical influences with a contemporary voice. Before fully committing to art, I worked in consumer technology, collaborating closely with CEOs and founders to scale early-stage businesses. That world sharpened my strategic thinking and adaptability—qualities that continue to inform my creative process, allowing me to approach painting with both curiosity and purpose.
I am mostly self-taught, learning from the old masters while also seeking mentorship from skilled European painters. I constantly absorb visual information—through travel, photography, the works of other artists, social media, fashion and even music—all the art forms I have loved throughout my life, always looking for new ideas to explore in my paintings.
A Picnic in Sunflowers, composition drawing, 2025
As a young professional, I have been deeply intellectually curious in subjects formed the basis of organization: Commerce, Economics, Marketing and Business Management, standing at the top of my class throughout my academic career. I took a rigorous academic path; that chapter had its own energy, and I was fully alive in it. Over time, my curiosity didn’t narrow—it widened. I found myself drawn to building things, being part of messy, ambitious technology start-up environments, throwing myself into work that asked for creation in different forms: ideas, solutions, teams, functions etc. These experiences set me up to become a professional and an individual whose mind is set to evolve, grow from experiences, find novel paths of self-expression, and discover new passions.
That deep longing to build and create eventually distilled into one of the purest forms of creativity—the fine arts. I chose painting because of the synthesis it offers: structure, flow, intuition, self-expression and entrepreneurship. This isn’t a story of leaving one world for another—it’s about integration. Every path I’ve taken has added to the way I now see, think, and create.
I studied at the London School of Economics in the UK and Lady Shri Ram College for Women in India. My artistic journey has been shaped by curiosity, exploration, and a passion for visual storytelling.
